SCRIBD: Where the world comes to read...
My Scribd Page
In 2010 I was invited to read at LIT CRAWL as part of a team of Scribd authors rocking Lit Quake. I was one of the most subscribed-to female authors on the site with more than 47,000 followers and 170,000 reads of my New York Times articles, novel chapters, my Good Men Project columns, and other essays, as you can see HERE. I prepared for the event at San Francisco OPEN MICS. This piece, called THE RED PURSE, is a fun ride down restaurant lane about dining as a couple, then as a family with Max - from Four Star to Mac 'n Cheese. THE TROUBLE WITH HARRY is a favorite of mine...an elegiac look at marriage, death, and the true meaning of loss (there are a few balloons in it too!) Our really cool son's EXCLAMATION OF INDEPENDENCE is writ large in this piece. My column, entitled Manhood and Medicine started with this story about my personal hero: A GOOD MAN IN THE MAKING. Then there's my essay on a KALEIDOSCOPE STEALTH NURSE. And if you think that title is wild, you should read the essay! Sex, Lives and Ileostomates garnered a lot of attention, and rightly so. Honesty, bravery and humor like this are rare. But there's nothing like a 4,000 word piece on the FORESKIN RESTORATION MOVEMENT to keep the hits coming. And what an honor it was to be first to win this wonderful award and be named: Scribd's VOICE OF THE WEEK.
