In perfect harmony...

So few even know who the Koch bros are. And yes, they are evil. I predict that men like those will bring the world to it's knees before they are finally defeated. It won't be pretty, nor will it be in my lifetime.

Are they the "man behind the curtain" for the Wicked Witch of Wasilla"?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it one of the Koch brothers who bought Jackie Onassis's apartment, the one she had lived in since she moved to NYC a little after the assasination until her death.

Koch pronounced the apartment run down and needing work; he renovated it to the tune of millions of dollars, changed the floor plan, and then said it was too small because they were having another baby, and sold it.

I was just thinking about this today, wondering if Jackie has her eye on them, wondering in what exact way would she be supporting Obama, like her accomplished, elegant, nice, normal (highest accolade, IMHO) daughter is.

I've no idea if one of the Koch brothers bought Jackie Onassis' apartment. I do know though that they are both buying our democracy.

They donate a lot to PBS.

mistah charley, say it aint so! I have to say I was so angry at NPR's finding a historian who defended Sarah Palin's Paul Revere story, that I don't even listen to it the same way. They had been my prime news source!

Indeed, David Koch is the brother who bought Jackie O's apartment on Fifth Avenue. He has given a lot of money to the Met and to MIT.

Just now on Huff Po the top story has a photo of David Koch and mentions their interesting in swaying the Ethanol vote in Congress.

What fascinates me most about them is the question of WHY they are so devoted to Right Wing passions when privately they indulge in such a liberal, elitist life style.

NPR? MIT? Jackie O's apartment? I had always imagined the Kochs as Walmart rubes. It's worse than I thought. What the hell is wrong with my generation? David Mamet is the new Republican spokesperson. . .

Laura, why they are so devoted to "right-wing passions"?? …because tax-cutting and de-regulating and off-shoring and getting rid of environmental laws puts more money in their pockets. It gives them more power to enjoy the finer things in life, including the power to distribute kingly largess. They're not rubes, they're regents.

Someone told me Koch funds stem-cell research when I was complaining about him. Lidia17 -- I agree: regents.

The corporate billionaire Koch brothers do give. It's called a public relations.

Behind the scenes they are secretly organizing and throwing lots of $ into right-wing think tanks, aimed at destroying anything progressive.

Their real motivation is to keep the wealth in the hands of the wealthy (themselves) and also, too, they want shape public policy.

Wiki says $100M to right-wing causes. The two wiki pieces are a good read (K family; K industries).

The Kochs are the puppeteers behind many of the "Pro-business" factions such as anti-union and anti-regulatory PACs.

Why? Because organizations like the EPA or union labor groups directly affect Koch Bros companies' bottom lines and reduces their power to exploit their workers, vendors, communities, etc. David & Charles Koch provide themselves with legitimacy and respectability the same way they gain their political power---> by purchasing each.

"Free-enterprise", for the Kochs, means no govt checks & balances with regard to worker safety, environmental safety, workers rights, and no barriers to exploiting communities into subversion to their desire to forego paying corp taxes for their companies and lowering capital gains taxes and income taxes for themselves.

Although it's probably been edited out of today's 19th & 20th Century history books, the Kochs are just today's Standard Oil Co/JD Rockefellers.

Without trust-busting legislation at that time, even the small middle-class we have today would be non-existent.

Yes, their contributions to the Met, Public Broadcasting, etc are legendary, but their charitable giving pales in comparison to the PACs they fund, which are for strictly for the benefit of their business.
