Perftect Timing

10/21/2011

When our son was little, he formed the word “perfect” as “perftect.” So that’s how we still say the word in our house.

So, it was perftect timing for me when Mrs. Palin recently bowed out of our national consciousness (only for a while, I predict). For me it’s been six solid months of following her, without a break, and I need to move on.

In that time, we have collectively carved out new material and pushed this story forward in a unique way. Breathing life into a topic already well covered by a cadre of fabulous bloggers (any of ‘em, all of ‘em) you have all worked hard with me to analyze and re-examine the fascinating evidence before us.

Alone, I also too spent countless hours culling information, following up on leads, examining research, and phoning sources. For every five inches of copy you’d see on my blog, I spent upward of five hours working the story:  that is, eliminating the detritus and going with what I could.

But alas, I have neglected huge parts of my life and my work. And now that I have started a class and have looming deadlines of my own, I must reclaim my mental space and physical time.

That’s not to say that I won’t post on Palin if it becomes important. That’s not to say that she’s down or out. I think she’s too mentally ill to allow herself to do that (watch closely McCain’s seat when it comes up for re-election.)

But for now, I cannot forward this birth story. Yes, I’m sitting on some things, but it’s not in anyone’s best interest to publish them. And yes, I eschew covering certain topics for reasons I’d rather not say publicly.

But you know what the saddest thing is about finding closure on this part of Palin’s life? That you all don’t know who you all are. And by that I don’t mean you are not evolved. I mean that I’ve met the most wonderful people through my blog. You are poets and writers and musicians and academicians and technicians and business and medical professionals. You are old and young and parents and childless. I know your real names, and where you live, and the fact that there’s someone who lives near you but I can’t share that with either of you! I know what one of you said to the ocean as you drove away this summer. How another met her husband and how still another visits her elderly father on a regular basis.

Your lives are fabulous and I have loved that you have shared them with me. Perhaps we can continue to meet and converse about books, music, art, politics, health, and business. And skunks. Or this:

Picture
I have no immediate plans or schedule I can adhere to. I might write about this, or that, or post some of my writing as I try to “progress” my next mystery.

If you’d like to post something, you have my address. If you want to go OT and talk about Palin, give it a try and perhaps someone will be reading and they can chime in.

Of course there are always new blogs starting up and old blogs continuing the story.

And if something really wild happens from the queen of the wild ride, I’ll be on it.

For now, my profound thanks to you all that have made this such a special and fulfilling time. I think we’ve done good, as Mrs. Palin might say.   Rock steady.  Laura.

To everything there is a season.

May the season you are entering give you peace and rest and love and family, personal growth and moments that take your breath away.

Thanks for all you've given us.

Well, its nice to stop and smell the roses. We all need to recharge but I know it isn't my business about babygate but I want to know is Trigg her baby. I don't think so. I just would love to know what possessed a crazy woman with mental problems already to take on a poor defenseless child. That whole family is on the crazy train to nowhereville. Your right you have to keep one eye open on her because you never know what she is going to do. Thanks for always give us your best. Don't stop completely.

Well, I will miss the day to day, but you are so right, Laura — The ship has sailed. Now we all believe it may end up on those rocks off the coast of Russia (across from her house, doncha know) or stuck on a cactus needle in the Arizona dessert, but for now it is the deadest of horses.

May your metaphors not be mixed and may your similes smile.

Like I told Regina you all deserve a long long rest from anything & everything Palin. Yes, I fear she will rear her head again and I hope to read what you will have to say (that is if you can figure out what the heck she is saying or if you can stand to listen to her horrible voice).

Can't wait to read your book.

Thanks again for your part in this LONG saga. I have never in my life followed anything like this. I guess, in my case, I have never seen anything so bizarre in all my life;)

Take care & I will definitely check in to see what you are up to.

Hear, hear, to the first two comments. I do so agree with both.

Genuine fatigue has set in after three plus years of following Sarah's antics almost daily. It really will be nice to let go of the urge to check on her doings every time I come to my computer.

I will be checking in from time to time ... in an hour probably (lol) to read what others have to say.

Best to you Laura and to all who comment and read here.

Life is short and time is fleeting.

A good choice. Sarah Palin isn't worth wasting time on as...

She is self destructing bit by bit.

The media will catch on eventually and either ignore her theatrics and drama lama pronouncements, or expose her.

I think we are all sick and tired of her. Just imagine her angst that the blogs can't even be bothered by her anymore!

Thanks for all you have done Laura and take care.

If anyone deserves a vacation from the Bizarro World of Sarah Palin, it's you, Laura.

You also deserve special recognition for the high standards you've brought to the whole "blog-versation" about Palin and her tawdry dealings.

Your posts have been consistently intelligent, insightful and, no matter the topic, classy.

I've often thought these qualities (along with some judicious and probably very time-consuming moderation of comments) were what kept the discussions here lively but never low-brow.

So long as there's a PAC to push or a lens to lie into, Palin will continue to threaten the rights and well-being of every citizen of this country.

You should be very proud that you're one of the bloggers she is most threatened by, so well did you present the case of her astounding and relentless perfidy.

THANK YOU !

It has been a very long 3+ years for many who believe this woman is a danger to our democracy.

Right now, it appears the 2012 stage has been determined by the GOP, and fortunately the Palin name is nowhere near the venue.

She may attempt a last minute run under conservative or indy party - but for now ... she's only yelling from beyond the fence. However, if she begins to move into the game again - I trust we will be back on our keyboards reminding the voters why they shouldn't even consider Palin as an option.

Good Luck Laura and enjoy your "down time" Nancy

I will miss your take on things and a more thoughtful perspective than most blog writers.

That said, what am I going to do for a hobby? My reading the anti-Palin blogs began in disgust at her anger mongering, fear inducing, gun-totin' mentality that was foisted upon us by McCain. Part of the continued fascination was with her total inability to sound like a normal human being much less act like one. Then came the rest - you know the drill - emails, babies, wild rides, pregnancies (or not), and the rich trove of books mainly Game Change, The Lies of Sarah Palin, and The Rogue.

SCREEEEEEECH! STOP! Going to be hard. Oh, well, she'll do something stupid and I'll enjoy reading about it. The worst thing she has done is enable the current crop of GOP wannabes and supporters who cheer for death and destruction.

@Laura

I do appreciate all you've done, Laura. It wasn't easy but you did it very well. I'm personally gonna miss getting a daily dose of your wit and charm here, but I understand completely.

You're not losing any friends...we're just going to the back burner for awhile where we belong in the scope of things. But you will remain in the hearts of many that you've touched through your writing.

I wish you and your family the best always.

Laura
I understand. I have been fascinated by/addicted to/obsessed with this story for the last 3+ years (as have many others). It has become a daily habit (actually many times a day) to check in on the blogs to find out the latest. I am sick of it and sick of SP. However, I want it over completely, with all of the answers and closure. Will that ever happen? I am still hopeful. Good luck in your future endeavors Laura. Thank you for sharing so much of yourself and your life with us.

Thank you Laura, for all you you have done. I truly appreciate all you brought to the Sarah "Table". I wish you the best in your future efforts to bring the truth and joy to people. Will be checking to see what you are doing and where life takes you. Seasons come and go and we like to have a nice memory in the ones who passed on this way. May she never cross our path again, but we all want to be sure she won't threaten us or anyone else again. I think we will always wonder about Trig and what his future holds. May his first 3 years never stunt his life ahead! Thank you.

a football player's ass?

I've burned out on Palin, too, but some of these supposed priorities are questionable.

The larger issue of the media purveying to us an insane woman as presidential material will remain, even if we tire of commenting about it.

lidia17
10/21/2011 10:09:38 am

Probably my previous comment sounded harsh. But to my mind the importance of blogging is to create an alternative to the MSM.

Other people have other reasons for blogging: artistic expression, community building of an apolitical kind… which is OK, but just not what it takes to challenge the status quo in this moment, imo.

This is certainly not a statement of blame, since I could well, myself, have done much more on the front that I'm discussing. However, I certainly don't have the ready-made pulpit and contacts that Brad and Laura have had.

Lidia17
10/21/2011 10:25:12 am

What I said above notwithstanding, of course I wish Laura, Regina, and all the other bloggers all the best in their future endeavors. It's natural to want to move on beyond a field that no longer seems fruitful and doesn't render a personal yield.

Do you know how much time a blog takes up? I really think you should start one up and not use the lame excuse about Brad and Laura's contacts.
Only then will you understand. Babygate is being hidden by high up GOP'rs. I'm sure now. Until the elections in 2012 or impeach a few of them we will not know Babygate.

Looking forward to the day when NOBODY mentions the P word. It's already happening, slowly but surely.

Now if the uninformed would just stop paying for her word salad - and we could return to the blissful summer of 2008 when nobody had ever heard of her.

Something very important happens here on this blog. There is a high level post and discussion about complex and controversial matters. There a is respectful exchange of ideas. We find open minds and even some open hearts.
Palin was the focus for many of us, but the tangents led to treasures as well.
Laura sets a tone that makes all the difference. As far as I'm concerned, we have only begun.

I hope Laura will continue to post thoughtful non-Palin stuff. I'll certainly check in often. I know we will continue to explore the truth about babygate... and perhaps Laura will join us in that conversation when it makes sense for her.

I think this is a TERRIFIC blog and I believe it's part of a larger shift in the way we all communicate with each other.

Thank-you LAURA !!!

First, and above all else, I must give credit where credit is due. Sarah Palin.
If not for that trainwreck, I'd have never met an inspirational Author, Reporter and Human Being named Laura Novak, nor have read some of the most insightful, witty, thought provoking and intelligent blog entries and comments.

The Palin story is far from over, and I trust Laura will be on to any new developments.

And I agree with Lidia that revelation of Palin's hoax, and its wider implications, continues to be of utmost importance. I'm sure the discussion will continue, here, to some extent, and elsewhere.

I'm grateful for the forum Laura has created, as I was to Audrey and to Bree. They have all made a positive difference in the world.

But, I would not question anyone who needs a time out, for whatever reason, from the poison that is Palin.

Ah well. Thanks, Laura, for hosting this blog, for buying that incredible photo and sharing it with us, for doing what so few journalists did with regard to Mrs. Palin, who remains a threatening presence on the back burner, even with the heat turned down. Vigilance!

Thank you Laura, for hosting one more spot of sanity in the insane world of $P. I think we all did some good intuitive work on the Babygate story, and hopefully had an impact in the entire scheme of things surrounding $P.

Was glad to see that Brad had opened his own blog, but disappointed that it requires a Google ID (the only one I have on his list) to comment. My Google ID is too close to giving away my identity. Not a safe thing to do in Screech's territory.

Thanks Laura for pursuing this tale for as long as you did. Really, when there is nothing more to say, why say a thing.

What is left now is merely making fun of every single thing that Palin says or wears or which hairstyle she chooses to display for the day. It's really not worth rehashing all of the old bits and certainly not worth following any of her new appearances.

If I had your literary credentials I would choose to step away from the postmortem on Palin and pursue what truly makes your heart and head happy and healthy.

If Palin becomes relevant again in the 2016 race, I'm sure that we'll all step back up and remind people why she's not fit to lead. Until then, there are much better things to spend our time on.

There are 5.3 kilometres of groomed cross country ski trails at Hatcher Pass and I for one will be skiing tomorrow, and Sunday, instead of thinking about a person who is cooked, well done, and irrelevant.

Take Care!

Dear Laura and Community,

I'm interrupting a tech-free European trip to comment here because how can I not?

Laura, I wish you well. Thank you for all your hard work on the blog and for making a place that interesting, intelligent people came to post and comment. As others wrote above, it's a classy place. Thank you for being the force that finally pushed me to download and read a book on my laptop. Thank you for giving me a voice on your blog where I could shout from my heart about how angry I was that Palin had punked the values I most hold dear-- particularly womanhood and beauty.

This will always be where I learned that insurance CAN be interesting, that other people besides me worry about their online grammar, and that my obsession with toppling the Palin regime doesn't make me a crackpot.

Above all, thank you for your courage and Brad's to be open with your identity. If anything would have frightened Palin, that is surely it.

Bless all yall's hearts.

PS Frosty! I have several Google identities-- I just set up emails to get them, and then never use the emails. Maybe that would work for you? A special Google identity for Brad. We'll recognize that voice no matter what your name is!

I've enjoyed visiting here and reading such interesting discussions of the Great Baby Hoax. I still think that it is important that the truth come out because what started as Sarah Palin's foolish little hoax to protect a family member grew to enormous proportions once she was plucked by John McCain to be a vice-presidential candidate. Then the Republican campaign machine became involved and the msm - and the truth became the purview of the blogs.

As for "John Rambo" up above, if American women are so "unchaste," who are they unchaste with? Pathetic that he has had such an unfortunate life.

Well, this is sad but totally understandable. Please if she tries a third party run, jump back in!
I'm coming to the conclusion that while Sarah will self destruct, the Tri-G hoax will be known only to those of us who have followed the blogs over these last three years. I also think the bloggers have made history and are the future of real investigative journalism.

Had a good laugh at Rambo and his manifesto.

He doesn't seem aware that most poster here are women, with some men. We weren't a hen party coffee klatch group, but most of us resented the kind of Woman that Sarah Palin represents.

She sets women back 50 years in time, while pretending to be a competant and intelligent female with guts.

Perhaps Rambo is referring to Palin, a female barracuda who doesn't cook, clean or do windows, and neglets her children while being a yenta in politics and screaming victimhood.

We American woman often are the product of European or Asian women who married American Men, or came to America with their foreign husbands.

We are the melting pot. And my husband for one, while exposed to many flirtatious and very willing foreign woman, both appreciated and loved the American he married.

Thank you, Laura for the many hours you have spent in research and for the excellent posts we all read on your blog.

I believe ultimately that Sarah Palin used and was used by the GOP. I take no pleasure in seeing the woman as she was in one of her last few interviews: wig askew, vitriol manufactured.

Thank you for your integrity.

Thanks Laura. :-)

There are other things in life. That's true.

I dunno if Palin or her people actually do read the blogs, but just in case they do I hope there is always a steady stream of wild speculation.....and informed conversation just to keep a bit of pressure on her. I can see her emerging from this and just going back to what she was always doing. Making money from speeches and saying crazy stuff to get national attention.

She is very interesting if you love her or hate her, so I can see her being around for a long time unless some kind of major scandal comes along. Hopefully because of the election no ones focus will be on her. The problem I see though is that she is quite capable of imposing herself on the news during the election. She surely is going to have some kind of effect. that is infuriating.

....Anyway, yeah it is tiring doing things like looking through posts from someone who may or may not be real. What is true and what isn't? I don't know? I go back and forward in my beliefs.

Good luck with your classes and books. :-)

@crystalwolfakacaligrl

I really don't see where I was "insulting". I think Laura and Brad have done well to move the ball forward (to use a football metaphor), but I'm unclear on the reasons to punt now, given the larger issues still at stake.

Brad's "Spiral of Silence" is as important now as at any other time, although (imo) he is dissipating some of that righteous impetus in unsustainable detours from the main path, taking away from the basic, outrageous, implications of Sarah's, and the GOP's, hoax on the electorate, which -it seems- will go completely unpunished.

I'm not criticizing B&L for their contacts, I'm envious. Everyone certainly has their own lives to live, and their own resources to husband; I'm not saying otherwise, because that certainly influences me, as well. I'm just expressing dismay, just as we all expressed dismay when Audrey gave up, Bree gave up, etc.

I was happy that you started up your own blog but, secreted as it was, what good did it do? What good did my videos do that only a few thousand people saw? For someone physically in the US, there are many "guerrilla marketing" actions that could have been and could still be undertaken.

Those blessed by their positions with a larger megaphone in this regard, however, have –and this is just my opinion, feel free to disagree– a greater responsibility to trumpet the truth.

Which is why I will hold the MSM eternally responsible, criminally so, however I certainly do not denigrate ANY extent of the work of any of the anti-Palin bloggers, because every little bit has helped and continues to help.

Awwww! Sorry to see you departing the fray, Laura, but thanks so much for your work here. This blog has hosted some unique and valuable discussions (especially re the insurance and birth certificate issues).

I don't think Palin will ever be able to return to political prominence. I suspect she'll focus on preaching--perhaps literally--to the choir. She can still make a bundle by speaking to right-wing, anti-abortion, "Christian" audiences. She's already joined the evangelical women's conference circuit.

However: If she does re-enter politics (even for Scottsdale City Council), I hope you'll revive your Trig Truther salon.

Best wishes!

Thanks, Venifica. I'm sure there will be room to report on "her" if something comes to light.

And Cat, and others, thanks as well. Everyone has made this a bit of team work!

I will miss the (mostly) intelligent exchange here, but I understand perfectly. I have been around less lately anyway, as there has been too much focus on hair and wrinkles. Still, I do want to know if MeAgain posts again!

Lidia, on a recent trip I showed your videos to some people who loathe Palin but who had absolutely no idea. We can keep spreading the word.

Keep fighting, everyone!

Laura, I have enjoyed your blog and respect your work as well as respect the need to push back from Palin. Palin is toxic and in order to keep your sanity, you need to step back and analyze. While I will never be happy until Palin is in an orange jumpsuit, I think the recent books, blogs and posters have reduced Sarah's influence. I have always hoped that when Palin was exposed, we could all have a party and get to meet each other.
Good Luck on your new interests.
